The Half Iron Bike Course has taken on a dramatic change from past years and is now comprised of two loops of the Olympic Bike Course along with a short loop to the south of Nolte State Park. Total course length is 56 miles. Begin by heading north on the Veazie-Cumberland Rd to the junction of Retreat Kanaskat & Kanaskat-Kangley Roads (5.7 miles). Bear right onto the Kanaskat-Kangley Rd to the junction of the Kent-Kangley Rd (8.6 miles). Turn right and head west on the Kent Kangley towards the town of Kent. You will pass the Retreat-Kanaskat road and turn right onto 292nd Ave SE (14.65 miles). The next 1.4 miles is an out & back on 292nd, then continue west on the Kent-Kangley for 0.6 miles to TA Point #2 (15.25 miles). Head back east and bear right onto the Retreat Kanaskat Rd (16.05 miles) and the junction of Veazie-Cumberland & Kanaskat-Kangley Roads (19.15 miles). Bear right onto the Veazie-Cumberland Rd and head south back to Nolte State Park (24.75 miles). Continue south past the park for 3.2 miles to SE 416th St where you will turn left (27.95 miles). Travel east for a short distance before 416th turns left (north) and becomes 292nd Way SE. You will merge back onto the Veazie-Cumberland Rd at about the 29.7 mile mark and continue north back past Nolte State Park (31.20 miles) to begin the second loop to the north. This second loop is identical to the first loop to the north and you will finish the ride by turning into Nolte State Park and the transition Rd (56 miles). Note! You will NOT ride south past the park a second time.

The bike course is on nicely paved country roads over some rolling hills. The first 1.4 mile out & back on 292nd Ave SE is a gentle grade up to the TA Point, then downhill back to the Kent-Kangley Rd. All major turns are monitored by the King County Sheriff (11 total officers) who will provide you with the right-of-way at all times.

RUN - 13.1 mi
Flat to gentle rolling hills, this looped course is on quiet county roads, with a finish on a wide dirt trail that circles the lake. Do expect to see light vehicle traffic (local residents).

SPECIAL NOTE: There is a 1/4-mile section of the run course that is rough (pot-holes and gravel). We have spent many hours with the county and local authorities to try to come up with a solution (fix it, or different course). We have had no luck in acheving a solution, as the residence do not want the road fixed (it keeps the traffic slowed down), and there is no safe, logistical option for a new run course. We have talked with athletes that do the event, and the feed back is that they do not mind the small inconvenience in lew of cancelling the event. Additionally, we had some people in the Olympic Du miss a turn on the course in 2007. We will have better signage, and a race manager located that that location.
